Project Description

VALIANT was the prime contractor for this medical renovation of approximately 15,000 SF in the main hospital building at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center at Mountain Home, TN. The project involved renovating and expanding the existing Dialysis, Nephrology, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) areas within a live hospital setting. This necessitated meticulous planning to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing medical operations. The project expanded and renovated the Acute Care ground floor areas B and C.

The renovation strategy involved a phased approach, with temporary partitions and environmental controls segregating construction zones from occupied areas. Extensive interior demolition and reconstruction followed, including new walls, ceilings, flooring, and the reconfiguration of crucial building systems like plumbing, electrical, and medical gas. Additionally, a temporary exterior air handling unit (AHU) was strategically placed to maintain HVAC services during the replacement of the existing permanent unit. This complex undertaking demanded close collaboration between the VA team, VALIANT, and its VDC technology to identify and address unforeseen issues, ultimately saving time and minimizing disruptions to critical patient care areas.
